4 pm: Congrats to local boy Nic Lamb, of Santa Cruz, for taking home the 2016 Titans of Mavericks trophy Friday off the coast of Half Moon Bay.
More photos to come later tonight, so check back after the post-event press conference wraps…
3:30 pm: Long and Lamb are fearless …
3 pm: it’s a zoo out here
2:10: the free surfer just caught a nice wave. Where’s his jet ski support?
2:05 pm: there’s one person free surfing during the break. Who is that brave man/woman?
2 pm: the final is set: Jamie Mitcho , Carlos Burle, Tyler Fox, Greg Long, Travis Payne, and Nic Lamb. 5-10 minutes away, the wind continues to pick up…
1 pm: it’s starting to get choppy out here, but the guys are braving it, waiting for the best set waves.
11 am: ANTHONY TASHNICK ready to head back out.
10 am: Unfortunately one of our favorites, second-place Skindog Collins blew out his eardrum and is likely done for the event after a bad hold down. It’s getting real out here.
9 am: Quite a scene at Jeff’s Mavericks Surf Shop, where they’re playing the live feed.
8:45 am: We’re a go. 25 foot and growing …
8:15am: While we wait, here’s a shot from our first event here in 2007. A lot of the same faces. Props to these veteran Titans.
8 am: We’re about ready to set it off from Mavericks at Half Moon Bay. Just waiting for event organizers to give the green light. All signs point to an epic day …
